ok, this post and some of the posts after this one are a bit dated but i figured i would add them anyways. Certain events have occured that has limited my time to post updates to my blog.

Anyway, on Monday 05.28.2007 (and basically part of Tuesday 05.29.2007) I was invited to fish with my friend Brian on his 30 foot boat and catch giant squid about four miles out of Dana Point Harbor. Brian had already caught about 10 giant squid the night before so he knew just where to catch these giants and when.

We headed out around 10pm Monday night, picked up another friend of his, Len from his boat, and started our (supposedly) 3 hour tour (haha.. Gilligan's Island pun). The giant squid didn't start hitting until about 1A.M. Tuesday morning but once they did, man, it wa non-stop! These bad-boys are between 20-30 lbs. and they put up a GREAT fight! It was amazing how much power the had. Once you had one on the squid jig, you basically start cranking on the reel and DON'T let up at all. If you give these thing just the slightest amount of free line, they will loosen themselves from the jig.

After I landed my first squid, i was BEAT! I had to hand over the rod/reel to the others on the boat so i can rest and they can start catching their keep. These things are amazing fighters and are strong! Once you get them to the surface be carefull not to point their tenticles in your direction cause they'll spit a ton of water and possibly ink at you, and unfortunately, Len got very intimate with a couple of the landed squid.

By the nights end, we caught about 10-15 squid and we were done and beaten!

Here's a picture of some of the squid we caught.

Here's an action shot i snapped of Brian pulling in one of the biggest squid of the night.

On another note, my friend Brian caught himself a baby blue fin shark, which we eventually let go. He was attracted to our area due to the squid that was floating around our area. I guess, he was hungry as well. This blue-fin was around 30 pounds or so and he put up a pretty good fight.

If i get some of the other pictures I took with Brian's camera i will post them, these ones were captured with my camera phone.

Thank you for reading!

cheers,
